Rapid enzyme system for the identification of pathogenic Neisseria spp.
Gonochek II is a combination of three enzyme substrates in one tube which will give a rapid identification (30 min) of those pathogenic Neisseria spp. which can be isolated on Thayer Martin or similar selective media. Eighty isolates were tested by Gonochek II and a carbohydrate utilization method; total agreement was achieved between the two methods.
متن کاملSiderophore production by Pasteurella multocida.
Pasteurella multocida grown under conditions of iron deprivation secreted into the culture medium a growth-enhancing factor which functioned as a siderophore. The siderophore was found to be neither a phenolate nor a hydroxamate by chemical tests and bioassays and was given the trivial name multocidin. Multocidin was partially purified and found to be a highly polar, nonaromatic, and dialyzable...
متن کاملSiderophore production by Aeromonas salmonicida.
Growth under conditions of iron-restriction and the production of siderophores was examined in 21 typical and 14 atypical strains of Aeromonas salmonicida. With the exception of one atypical strain, all strains grew and multiplied in the presence of the high-affinity iron chelators ethylenediamine di(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid), alpha, alpha'-dipyridyl or transferrin. Chrome azurol S agar was u...
متن کاملCharacterization of Neisseria cinerea, a nonpathogenic species isolated on Martin-Lewis medium selective for pathogenic Neisseria spp.
An asaccharolytic, gram-negative, oxidase-positive diplococcus was isolated on Martin-Lewis medium from the cervix of a patient attending an arthritis clinic at Seattle Public Health Hospital, Seattle, Wash. This strain, NRL 32165, did not produce detectable acid from glucose, maltose, sucrose, fructose, mannitol, or lactose in either cystine Trypticase agar (BBL Microbiology Systems, Cockeysvi...
متن کاملDifferential expression and transcriptional analysis of the alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase gene in pathogenic Neisseria spp.
Alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase (Lst) is expressed on the outer membrane of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis and sialylates surface lipooligosaccharide (LOS), facilitating resistance to complement-mediated killing. The enzyme is constitutively expressed from a single gene (lst) and does not undergo antigenic or phase variation. We observed that Triton X-100 extracts of N. gonorrhoea...
